Purpose
The Taupo RSA Trust Board provides financial grants to Secondary School students attending Taupo nui a Tia College, Tauhara College and the Lake Taupo Christian School.
The details of these grants are given through the following means:
ANZAC Day Essay Competition
The objective of the ANZAC Day Essay Competition is to raise awareness of service, citizenship and leadership in the ‘eyes’ of New Zealand youth. The Essay is looking for an extension of original thought / opinion from the basis of an actual occurrence or fact.
The aim of this awareness is its expression through topics of a military subject.
The essay competition is open to all secondary students attending the above schools. The essay is of a minimum of 500 words and no more than 1500 words.
The competition culminates prior to ANZAC Day (25 April) and the winner receives a prize of $500 and reads the essay at the Dawn Service.
The subject of the essay is advised, along with the competition details, on 1 February each year through this website, posters at the schools, newspapers adverts and social media outlets.
Tertiary Scholarship
The objective of the Trust’s Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to a Year 11-13 secondary student who has been accepted and will attend tertiary education or training in the year following the Grant.
The aim of the Scholarship is to identify a secondary student who has leadership potential, original and practical thought and a confident, outgoing manner.
The Scholarship requires the applicant to think of ‘A BIG IDEA’ for the development of an enterprise in Taupo’s tourism or primary industries sectors’ and detail the idea in a written submission of 2000 – 3000 words plus any supporting documents. The Scholarship is worth $10,000; $5,000 paid at the beginning of the first year and $5,000 in the second year, after successfully completing the first year.
The Scholarship details are made available on 1 July each year through this website, posters at the schools, newspapers adverts and social media outlets.The best three BIG IDEAS will be short-listed and then verbally presented to a Judging Panel for final consideration.
